China Flour Production & Consumption in Nov. 2013

Flour supply: According to the National Bureau of Statistics, flour production by medium and large mills registered 12.001 million MT in Nov. Deducting repetitive statistics, BOABC estimates that flour production was about 7.001 million MT, a drop of 4.73% on the year-on-year basis. Flour production totaled 69.859 million MT in Jan. ~ Nov., a drop of 0.05% on the year-on-year basis. Taking into account of month-end stocks and imports, flour supply was 7.752 million MT in Nov., down 2.52% on the year-on-year basis, influenced by meat consumption increase and rapid growth of wheat price. Besides, the difficulty of state-reserved wheat delivery restrained flour production.
  
Flour consumption was 6.958 million MT in Nov., including 6.682 million MT for food use, 240,000 MT for feed production and 35,000 MT for industrial uses. Of the flour consumed for food use, 3.14 million MT were consumed by households, 1.945 million MT by the catering industry and 1.5597 million MT by the food industry.
  
Flour consumption by rural households, restaurants, the food industry and urban households accounted for 34.21%, 27.85%, 22.87% and 10.76% of the total food-use consumption respectively.
  
Flour wholesale price: flour wholesale and retail price rose this month driven by demand increase and rapid growth of processing costs. Flour wholesale price was RMB3,222/MT in Nov. and average price was RMB3,109/MT in Jan. ~ Nov., up 11.39% and 9.78% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Prices for special first grade flour and special second grade flour were RMB3,258/MT and RMB3,080/MT respectively in Nov., up 6.45% and 13.03% YOY respectively. And accumulative average prices were RMB3,184/MT and RMB2965/MT respectively in Jan. ~ Nov., up 6.19% and 11.20% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
  
In view of terminal consumption, prices for special first grade flour, special second grade flour and small packaged flour were RMB5.36/kg and RMB4.47/kg and RMB5.58/kg respectively in Nov., up 3.88%, 8.32% and 5.69% YOY respectively. And accumulative average prices were RMB5.24/kg, RMB4.41/kg and RMB5.49/kg respectively in Jan. ~ Nov., up 2.28%, 8.87% and 5.86% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
