Analysis of food price trends in 2018

The average price of three main grains in June 2018 was 2,286 yuan /ton, a month-on-month growth of 1.11% and a year-on-year decrease of 0.63%. After deducting the influence of currency, the prices of three main grains decreased 1.24% from the previous month and were down by 1.88% year-on-year. In terms of major domestic grain varieties, the prices of soybeans increased, and the prices of the rest products decreased to varying degrees. On year-on-year basis, the prices of sorghum, barley, potatoes, and corn significantly increased 27.85%, 12.06%, 10.29%, and 5.97% respectively, and the prices of soybeans, paddy, and wheat were down by 6.41%, 4.00% and 1.03%, respectively.
The average price of the three main food crops from January to June 2018 was 2,345 yuan/ton, up 2% year-on-year. The prices of wheat, paddy, soybeans and potatoes decreased by 0.10%, 2.60%, 3.80% and 9.48%, respectively, while the prices of corn, barley and sorghum rose by 13.28%, 16.74% and 30.92% from the previous year respectively.
In 2017/18, the average price was 2341yuan/ton, up 1.35% from the previous year. After deducting the influence of currency, the prices of three main food crops actually decreased 1.09% year-on-year. The average price from May 2018 to June 2019 is expected to be 2298yuan/ton, down by 0.30% year on year. After deducting the influence of currency, the price actually increases 2.10%. National policy and demand and supply in market will push the overall prices up in the future.
