Central Life Sciences introduces Centynal insecticide
By CnAgri2012-07-11 18:11:33 Print Central Life Sciences, whose founders invented insect growth regulator technology more than 35 years ago, announced the availability of Centynal Insecticide, a new tool for protecting stored grains against insects such as granary weevils, rice weevils, lesser grain borers and more. Used in conjunction as a tank mix with Diacon IGR, a proven insect growth regulator that breaks the insect life cycle and prevents larvae from developing into adults, the dual product solution helps grain storage operators protect their profits.According to the USDA, in the wheat and corn markets alone, post harvest economic impact due to insect direct feeding damage and grain deterioration and contamination is estimated at about $1.25 to $2.5 billion, accounting for 5 to 10 percent of the total value. For a cost of 4.5¢ per bushel, operators can utilize the Centynal Insecticide—Diacon IGR tank mix combination to effectively fight those infestations and reduce potential reinfestations.
"The economic damage stored product insects have on grain while being stored can be devastating if not properly addressed,” said Mark Taylor, director of marketing for the professional agriculture division of Central Life Sciences. “The power and total control of the Centynal Insecticide and Diacon IGR combination is a market stand-out and we’re pleased to introduce it to the industry as an alternative to its current pest management practices.”
Centynal Insecticide, with its active ingredient deltamethrin, provides broad-spectrum insect control with a long lasting residual. In addition, it features a broad use pattern that allows for application to a variety of grains and seeds, as well as use as a bin treatment or perimeter spray.
Diacon IGR, an insect growth regulator with the active ingredient (S)-methoprene, interrupts the insect life cycle and prevents larvae from developing into adults. It comes in two formulations, dry and liquid, and is labeled for all stored commodities and foods. With a long residual, it protects against reinfestations.
Applications of an adulticide alone, whether on the grain or as an empty bin treatment, have a high initial impact. IGRs alone have a longer impact with efficacy building as infestations gradually disappear due to the life cycle disruption. A tank mix of Centynal Insecticide and Diacon IGR provides a quick knock down of adults and maintains efficacy as the IGR prevents larval development. It is a proactive, cost-effective, and labor saving process that helps ensure the quality of stored grains.
