World Health Organization (WHO) now recommends water-based malathion to control mosquitoes outdoors.

Insecticides based on Cheminova malathion (Fyfanon®) have long been used to control mosquitoes that transmit diseases like malaria and yellow fever.

For outdoor mosquito control the WHO list of recommended products was strengthened with an additional malathion product. This product is based on Cheminova's patented technology that uses water instead of organic solvents.

Mosquitoes transmit serious diseases in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Fighting mosquitoes therefore plays a significant role in controlling these diseases and helps to prevent epidemics.

WHO recommends few tried and tested products for this purpose, including malathion.

The conditions for a product to be recommended by WHO is that the product has undergone a series of tests which, i.e. ensuring product quality, defined in a special WHO/FAO specification. Deliveries to local control programs consist predominantly of products with such a specification.
