Minister Han meets Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstyantyn Hryshchenko

Minister Han Changfu met with the visiting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstyantyn Hryshchenko and his delegation in Beijing on July 17, 2012. Both sides exchanged views on strengthening China-Ukraine agricultural cooperation.
Minister Han stated that China highly values its relations with Ukraine. Both China and Ukraine have a large agriculture sector that plays a significant role in both nations' economies.The two countries are highly complementary in agriculture, and thus enjoy great potentials for further cooperation.
In recent years, China and Ukrain established a working mechanism and signed a range of cooperation agreements which laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. China is ready to work more closely with Ukraine in the following areas to deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation and exchange.
First, to enhance inter-ministerial cooperation by bringing into full play the role of the Subcommittee on Cooperation in Agriculture in guiding and coordinating bilateral cooperation, and intensify communication on and implementation of documents containing important achievements.
Second, to actively promote the development of China-Ukraine Agricultural Park by providing preferential policies for investors and enterprises, and hence to encourage agricultural trade and investment.
Third,to strengthen cooperation in animal health, continue to conduct bilateral communication and negotiation towards an early signing of a cooperation agreement.
Fourth, to enhance cooperation on international food and agricultural affairs to make joint contribution to global food security and agricultural development.
Hryshchenko highlighted the importance of agricultural cooperation between the two sides, and agreed with Minister Han's proposals for closer agricultural cooperation. He also expressed Ukraine's wish to further strengthen agricultural cooperation with China.
Hryshchenko pointed out that Ukraine is endowed with favorable agricultural conditions, and produces high-quality agricultural products. China-Ukraine agricultural cooperation enjoys great prospects. The Ukrainian side is eager to promote cooperation with China, particularly on agricultural trade including grain trade and infrastructure investment.
MOA Chief Economist Chen Mengshan, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and Ukrainian Ambassador to China Kostenko Yurii attended the meeting.
