Li Jiayang meets high-level delegation of the International Potato Center

Vice Minister of Agriculture and President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences(CAAS) Li Jiayang met with the visiting Director General Pamela Anderson and Board Chair Peter VanderZaag of the International Potato Center (CIP) on July 26, 2012. Both sides exchanged views on further deepening S&T cooperation.

Li stated that CAAS and CIP have maintained good cooperation since the two sides signed the collaborative agreement in 1985.

He pointed out that potato is a major food crop in the world, and is playing a more and more important role in ensuring food security. He suggested that CAAS and CIP deepen cooperation through a variety of ways, inter alia, research collaboration, personnel exchange and the establishment of cooperation platforms, to jointly contribute to the development of potato-related science and technology and the potato industry in China and the world.

He then expressed his hope that the establishment of CIP-China Center for the Asia Pacific Region (CCCAP) will intensify, broaden and build closer strategic cooperation between the two sides.

Both Anderson and VanderZaag affirmed the fruitful cooperation in potato breeding, processing, germ plasm exchange and training, and agreed with Li's suggestions on future cooperation.

They also expressed CIP's wish to further strengthen S&T cooperation with CAAS and jointly facilitate the preparation and construction of CCCAP.

Senior officials including CAAS Vice President Wang Ren attended the meeting.
