Consumer Prices for July 2012
By CnAgri2012-08-09 15:30:51 PrintIn July, the consumer price index (CPI) went up by 1.8 percent year-on-year. The prices grew by 1.9 percent in cities and 1.5 percent in rural areas. The food prices went up by 2.4 percent, while the non-food prices increased by 1.5 percent. The prices of consumer goods went up by 1.7 percent and the prices of services grew by 2.0 percent. On average from January to July, the overall consumer prices were up by 3.1 percent over the same period of the previous year.
In July, the month-on-month change of consumer prices was up by 0.1 percent, prices in cities went up 0.1 percent, and rural areas remained at the same level (the amount of change was 0). The food prices dropped 0.1 percent, the non-food prices increased 0.2 percent. The prices of consumer goods decreased 0.1 percent, and the prices of services increased 0.6 percent.
I. Year-on-Year Changes of Prices of Different Categories
In July, food prices went up by 2.4 percent year-on-year, affecting nearly 0.78 percentage points increase in the overall price level. Of which, the prices of fresh vegetables surged 8.0 percent, affecting nearly 0.21 percentage points increase in the overall price level; aquatic products, up by 6.7 percent, affecting nearly 0.17 percentage points increase in the overall price level; fresh fruits, up by 8.7 percent, affecting nearly 0.15 percentage points increase in the overall price level; the prices of grain rose by 3.0 percent, meaning 0.09 percentage points growth in the overall price level; grease, increased 5.9 percent, affecting nearly 0.07 percentage points increase in the overall price level; meat, poultry and related products down by 6.1 percent, affecting nearly 0.48 percentage points decrease in the overall price level (price of pork was down by 18.7 percent, affecting nearly 0.71 percentage points decrease in the overall price level); eggs, down by 6.5 percent, affecting nearly 0.06 percentage points decrease in the overall price level.
Prices for tobacco and liquor went up by 3.1 percent year-on-year, of which, that of liquor was up by 6.8 percent and tobacco was up by 0.5 percent.
Prices for clothing rose by 3.3 percent year-on-year. The prices for clothes went up by 3.6 percent while the prices for shoes increased 2.3 percent.
Prices for household facilities, articles and maintenance services went up by 1.9 percent year-on-year, of which, prices for household services and processing, maintenance services, up by 10.0 percent, and durable consumer goods was up by 0.3 percent.
Prices for health care and personal articles grew by 1.8 percent year-on-year. Of which, prices for traditional Chinese herbal medicines and proprietary Chinese medicines, up by 3.7 percent, medical apparatus and supplies increased 2.3 percent, health care services, up by 0.7 percent, and western medicine went up by 0.5 percent.
Prices for transportation and communication dropped 0.9 percent year-on-year. Of which, communication facilities, down by 11.8 percent, prices for fuels and parts for vehicles, down by 4.4 percent, transportation facilities dropped by 0.8 percent, vehicles use and maintenance, up by 4.5 percent, and inter-city traffic fares, up by 1.4 percent.
Prices for recreation, education, culture articles and services grew by 0.4 percent year-on-year. Of which, touring and outing, up 2.4 percent, recreation and culture, up 1.6 percent, education service, up 1.5 percent, durable consumer goods for recreational and cultural use and services, down by 5.5 percent.
Prices for residence went up by 2.1 percent year-on-year. Of which, prices for house renting, up 3.1 percent, water, electricity and fuel, up 2.5 percent, and building and building decoration materials rose by 0.5 percent.
According to estimation, in the 1.8 percent growth in July, the carryover effect of last year’s prices rising accounted for 0.9 percentage points, while new prices rising factors in this year accounted for 0.9 percentage points.
II. Month-on-Month Changes of Prices of Different Categories
In July, food prices dropped by 0.1 percent month-on-month, contributing 0.04 percentage points to the month-on-month decrease of consumer prices. In July, prices for aquatic products decreased 0.6 percent, affecting nearly 0.02 percentage points decrease in the overall price level; prices for eggs, decreased 2.3 percent, affecting nearly 0.02 percentage points decrease in the overall price level; prices for pork down by 0.3 percent, affecting nearly 0.01 percentage points decrease in the overall price level; prices for fresh vegetables increased 0.2 percent, contributing 0.01 percentage points decrease in the overall price level; and prices for vegetables increased 0.2 percent, affecting nearly 0.01 percentage points increase in the overall price level.
Non-food prices increased 0.2 percent in July, month-on-month. Of which, the month-on-month price for recreation, education, culture articles and services, residence, household facilities, articles and maintenance services, tobacco and liquor, health care and personal articles increased 0.8, 0.5, 0.2, 0.1 and 0.1 percent respectively, clothing, transportation and communication, decreased 0.5 and 0.4 percent respectively. In view of recreation, education, culture articles and services, tourism went up by 5.0 percent. In view of residence, water, electricity and fuel prices up by 1.4 percent.
