Mexico Cleared of Avian Salmonellosis

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food has declared the United Mexican States, as a Free Zone from Avian Salmonellosis, through an agreement published in the Official Journal of the Federation.

Since 1989, the isolation of the bacteria of Avian Salmonellosis caused by S. Pullorum has not been detected. In 2009, S. Gallinarum was eradicated by the National Health Service, Food Safety and Food Quality.

SAGARPA announced that this agreement benefits the poultry industry, whose value is estimated at 89 billion pesos.

The declaration makes the poultry industry more competitive and profitable, it gives certainty and enhances access to national and international markets with both live birds and their products and byproducts.
