The 2nd Sino-French International Forum on Beef Industry Development was held in Beijing during Sept.21-22, 2012.

Two special sessions of the Forum were dedicated to the discussions on "Organization of Beef Production Chain in Mountainous Areas"and "Use of Green Feed Additives".

The frequent communication and close cooperation in agriculture between China and France over the past years has shown significant results. The signing of the establishment of CSFB in December, 2005 opened a new chapter in Sino-France cooperation in beef cattle. The signing of the agreement on wider cooperation in the sector of beef cattle for 2011-2015 (Phase ) by Minister Han and Bruno Le Maire, French Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries in Paris in November,2010 signified that bilateral cooperation in the sector of beef cattle entered into a new and more down-to-earth stage.

With the support of competent authorities of the both sides, and concerted efforts of experts from CAU, the French National Institu
te of Agricultural Research (INRA), and French Livestock Institute (IDE), a total of 20,000 doses of frozen semen ofLimousinand Charolais cattle were introduced from France into China, and over 400 fine-breed Limousin cattle have been bred from these semen.

In addition, a wide range of other cooperation activities were also carried out includingacademic exchange, study tour by enterprises, students exchange and internship and the development of demonstration bases. All these efforts have boosted the advancement of beef cattle science and technology in China. Through these cooperation activities, which were mutually beneficial, France has expanded its influence of beef cattle industry in the Chinese market, which has laid a solid foundation for tapping the potential of Chinese market.

More than 100 experts and representatives attended the Forum, including experts from the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, INRA, IDE, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, CAU, Northwest Agriculture and ForestryUniversity, Zhejiang University,Qinghai Academy of Animal Sciences and agricultural and livestock enterprises.
