Accident Near WDE Site Kills Prize Winning Cow on Beltline

A traffic accident on the final day of World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, turned tragic after a 26-year-old woman swerved into a cattle trailer carrying eight Jersey cows. According to Madison police, the truck and trailer, which was owned by a family from out of state, ran into the ditch and overturned causing one of the animals to die.
Authorities say the driver of the car was reading a text message when the crash occurred. She was cited for inattentive driving.
None of the drivers involved in the mishap were injured and the other dairy cattle were led safely away from the accident scene.
The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of the Beltline just after the dairy show ended its five-day run.
