The Ambassadors' Talks on China-Latin America Agricultural Cooperation, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture of China, was convened at the China-Chile Demonstration Farm in Ji County, Tianjin Municipality on October 20, 2012. The Talks affirmed the sound development momentum of China-Latin America agricultural cooperation, and reviewed remarkable achievements in agricultural trade, S&T communication and investment, etc. In light of the initiatives made by Premier Wen during his visit to four Latin American countries early this year, the delegates put forward views and suggestions on future cooperation.

In the opening speech, Vice Minister Niu noted that Premier Wen paid an official visit to Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile in June, and raised a series of key policy proposals, laying a solid basis for further deepening China-Latin America partnership and agricultural cooperation. Niu expressed the willingness of the Chinese side to make joint efforts with Latin American countries in promoting the fruitful cooperation to a new height and bringing greater benefits to the people.

Niu also stressed that since the global financial crisis had imposed many challenges and uncertainties for the recovery of world economy, it would be of great significance to seek a sustained agricultural development in order to combat financial crisis, consolidate food security and maintain social stability. He believed that under such circumstances, a strengthened China-Latin America partnership in agricultural sector would reinforce the stable economic development of all nations and speed up the global economic recovery.

Ambassadors and other senior diplomats from eleven Latin American countries attended the Talks and had an in-depth discussion with Chinese delegates. The two sides reached a consensus on developing a strategic plan, organizing an Agricultural Ministers' Forum, and establishing a China-Latin America mechanism for grain contingency stocks, etc.

Li Wenxi, Vice Mayor of Tianjin Municipality and a number of other high level officials from MOA and Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the Talks.
