Valent’s Safari Insecticide Receives Forestry Registration

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2012-10-26 16:27:32China Agriculture Report Print Valent Professional Products announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved a forestry amendment for Safari® Insecticide (dinotefuran). The amendment allows Safari to be applied in a number of new use sites, including forestry, Christmas trees, reforestation nurseries and ornamental trees in plantations.

The Safari forestry amendment supersedes existing Special Local Need (SLN) labels for hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) in all states except New York.

"With global trade, we’re facing an onslaught of invasive tree pests and their effects not only in urban landscapes but in forests as well,” said Dr. Joe Chamberlin, field market development (FMD) manager for Valent Professional Products. “The forestry amendment for Safari provides tree care professionals with an important tool in the fight against destructive tree pests that threaten some of our country’s most majestic forests.”

Safari is the first product to be approved for use in forests as both a soil application and basal trunk spray, which makes this an important development for those battling HWA, emerald ash borer (EAB) and other damaging tree pests.

The forestry amendment also permits the use of Safari as a basal trunk spray on Christmas trees and nursery trees measuring less than 3 inches in diameter by height (on the lower 6 to 12 inches of the trunk).

Safari is a super-systemic insecticide with quick uptake and knockdown that controls a broad spectrum of native and invasive pests, including armored and soft scale, EAB, HWA, whitefly, mealybug, leafminer, fungus gnat, glassy-winged sharpshooter and lacebug—some of the most costly pests that affect ornamental landscapes, forests and high value greenhouse and nursery crops such as poinsettia and hibiscus.
