Summer Crop Production Increased in China

According to the survey on the summer grain in producing provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, the sown areas, yield per unit area, and total output of summer grain are as follows:

I. The total sown areas of summer grain was 27,576 thousand hectares, which increased 18 thousand hectares with a growth rate of nearly 0.1 percent over last year.

II. The yield per unit area of summer grain was 4,713 kg/ha, increased 127 kg/ha over last year, with a growth rate of 2.7 percent.

III. The total output of summer grain was 129.95 million tons, increased 3.56 million tons over last year, with a growth rate of 2.8 percent.

BOABC estimates that summer crop production may drop slightly this year on the year-on-year basis because of serious crop diseases in southern provinces in the late stage of crop growth. Against the backdrop of rising international grain price, the statistics of grain production increase declared by the National Bureau of Statistics is presumed to help stabilize grain market both at home and abroad.
