Estimates of Grain Production in China in 2012

CnAgri predicts that China’s planted grain acreage and grain production may be 111.484 million hectares and 575.4 million MT this year, up 0.84% and 0.72% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

Wheat acreage and yield are estimated to be 24.403 million hectares and 4,772kg/hectare, up 1.28% but down 2.56% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Total wheat production is predicted to be 116.44 million MT, next to the top level in history.

Winter wheat acreage, production and yield are 22.695 million hectares, 109.83 million MT and 4,840kg/hectare this year, up 1.28%, down 1.73% and down 2.21% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Spring wheat acreage is 1.708 million hectares, 1.39% more than last year. Spring wheat production is predicted to be 3.868 million MT.

Corn acreage and production are predicted to be 35.153 million hectares and 201.7 million MT, up 3.53% and 4.21% respectively on the year-on-year basis, thanks to abundant rains. Spring-planted corn acreage and production are predicted to be 23.435 million hectares and 134.9 million MT, up 4.55% and 4.64% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Summer-planted corn acreage and production are predicted to be 11.719 million hectares and 66.82 million MT, up 1.37% and 3.55% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

Paddy acreage, yield and production are predicted to be 30.427 million hectares, 6,689kg/hectare and 203.5 million MT this year, up 0.7%, 0.95% and 1.66% respectively over last year.

Early paddy acreage and production are estimated to be 5.838 million hectares and 33.591 million MT, up 1.7% and 2.71% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Single-cropping paddy acreage and production are estimated to be 18.111 million hectares and 132 million MT, up 0.21% and 1.43% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Late paddy acreage and production are predicted to be 6.478 million hectares and 37.975 million MT.

Of the total paddy acreage, 9.812 million hectares are japonica and 20.614 million hectares indica, up 5.84% but down 1.58% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

Barley acreage and production are predicted to be 723,000 hectares and 2.451 million MT this year.
