Problems in Microbial Manure Market

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2012-11-23 11:03:10China Agriculture Report Print

China’s microbial manure productive capacity and production increased from 6.3 million MT and 3.07 million MT in 2007 to 8.4 million MT and 4.57 million MT respectively in 2011. Its capacity and production are predicted to reach 9.3 million MT and 5.4 million MT respectively in 2012.

Microbial manure consists of microorganism fungicide and bacterial fertilizer (a mixture of fungicide and nutrient substances). Microbial manure is capable of exploiting organic waste, subduing pathogenic bacteria, enhancing crop production and quality, etc.

But problems exit in the microbial manure market. To begin with, microbial manure is 50 ~ 100% more expensive than ordinary fertilizer, unfit for crops that generate low returns. Moreover, the classification of microbial manure is unclear, because it is hard to distinguish the effect of microbial manure carrier substance from that of microbial manure itself. No unitary microbial manure testing methods have been recognized, which result in shoddy products in the market. In addition, the property of microbial manure deteriorates after several generations.
