Garment Consumption in 2012

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-07-05 11:15:52China Agriculture Report Print According to the National Bureau of Statistics, consumers’ garment expenses registered RMB1.552 trillion in China in 2012, up 12.44% over the previous year, suggesting a consecutive annual growth of over 10% since 2005.
 
Per capita garment expense value was RMB1,823 in urban areas and RMB396 in rural areas, up 8.9% and 16.14% on the year-on-year basis. Garment expense value totaled RMB1.297 trillion in urban areas and RMB254.6 billion in rural areas, up 12.21% and 13.61% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Garment price index rose 3.3% in 2012 on the year-on-year basis. Adjusting for inflation, the growth rate was 9.14%, the bottom rate since 2001, affecting garment production.
 
Cotton price ran high in 2010 as a result of the government’s excessive supply of currency. High cotton price led to a rising garment price, affecting garment exports.
