Flour Production & Wheat Consumption in 2012

By CnAgri2013-02-22 10:50:01 Print According to the National Bureau of Statistics, flour production by medium and large mills registered 123.3 million MT in 2012, an increase of 14.4% on the year-on-year basis. Henan and Shandong topped others with a production of 45.841 million MT and 24.702 million MT respectively. Flourmills consumed about 167 million MT wheat in 2012. Deducting repetitive statistics, BOABC estimates that flourmills’ wheat consumption was about 105 million MT in 2012, a drop of 0.5% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Flour production decentralized last year. Ten major flour-producing provinces turned out 115.9 million MT flour last year, a growth 5.34% on the year-on-year basis, but their share in the nation dropped slightly. Henan’s flourmills consumed 39.06 million MT wheat, parallel to the previous year. Shandong’s flourmills consumed 21.05 million MT wheat, 6.63% more than the previous year.
 
The nation’s wheat inventory was 15.44 million MT at the end of 2012, an increase of 30.9% on the year-on-year basis. Wheat production fell short of flourmills’ demand in eleven provinces. Henan’s wheat production fell short of demand by 7.238 million MT.
 
Wheat production exceeded flourmills’ demand by 5.214 million MT in Xinjiang, 5.879 million MT in Hebei, 2.86 million MT in Jiangsu and 2.31 million MT in Sichuan. Jiangsu’s surplus wheat went to Guangdong, Fujian and Zhejiang. The outshipment of Xinjiang’s surplus wheat was curbed by slim railway capacity.
