Estimates of China Grain Production in 2013

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-06-08 14:36:19China Agriculture Report Print Wheat price averaged RMB2,263/MT in the 2012/2013 crop year (May ~ April), up 8.18% on the year-on-year basis. Adjusting for currency value change, wheat price rose 14.29%, conducive to wheat production in 2013.
 
Rice price averaged RMB2,731/MT in the 2012/2013 crop year (June ~ May), up 9.14% on the year-on-year basis. The bumper paddy harvest in 2012 and increasing rice imports may have an impact on rice price and in turn on rice production this year.
 
Corn price averaged RMB2,413/MT in the 2012/2013 crop year (August ~ May), up 5.3% on the year-on-year basis, adjusted for currency value change. The slow price growth was attributable to decreased consumption by corn-processing industry and to large quantities of imported cheap corn.
 
Barley price averaged RMB1,992/MT in the 2012/2013 crop year (May ~ April), down 5.8% on the year-on-year basis. The price decline is expected to lead to a reduction of barley acreage in 2013.
 
China’s planted grain acreage, grain production and yield are predicted to be 111.329 million hectares, 596.37 million MT and 5,357kg/hectare this year, up 0.06%, up 1.15% and up 1.10% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Harvested winter wheat acreage, wheat production and yield are predicted to be 22.72 million hectares, 114.789 million MT and 5,052kg/hectare this year, up 0.27%, 2.37% and 2.09% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Spring wheat acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 1.588 million hectares, 6.532 million MT and 4,114kg/hectare this year, down 7.31%, down 2.81% but up 4.86% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Spring-planted corn acreage and production are predicted to be 24.326 million hectares and 148.53 million MT this year, up 3.86% and 6.21% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Summer-planted corn acreage and production are predicted to be 12.065 million hectares and 70.29 million MT respectively, up 2.22% and 3.44% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Planted paddy acreage, paddy production and yield are predicted to be 30.661million hectares, 208.1 million MT and 6,787kg/hectare this year, up 1.58%, 2.48% and 0.88% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Japonica acreage and production are predicted to be 9.99 million hectares and 69.941 million MT, up 1.38% and 1.4% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Indica acreage and production are predicted to be 20.671 million hectares and 138.164 million MT, Up 0.18% , 3.03% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
In terms of paddy planted in different seasons, early indica acreage and production are predicted to be 5.791 million hectares and 33.663 million MT, up 0.27% and1.67% respectively on the year-on-year basis; Semilate paddy acreage and production are predicted to be 18.57 million hectares and 137 million MT, up 1.8% and 1.06% respectively on the year-on-year basis; Late paddy acreage and production are predicted to be 6.296 million hectares and 37.325 million MT, up 0.92% and 0.94% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Barley acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 637,400 hectares, 2.055 million MT and 3,225kg/hectare this year, down 9.56%, 14.51% and 5.48% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Low barley price dampened farmers’ zeal in barley production.
