Comparison of Domestic and International Sugar Prices in May2012 in China

The international price tumbled in May 2012. The futures price for American 11# raw sugar for May delivery had been 19.62 US cents/pound till 25th May, down 2.42 US cents/pound from same period of April. In May the domestic price continued to drop. The wholesale price for white granulated sugar had been 6500 yuan/ton in Nanning till 25th May, down 140 yuan/ton from same period of April.

In April China imported 311,000 tons sugar. The average importation price for white granulated sugar was 716.2 US dollars/ton, lower from March. In April China imported 288,000 tons raw sugar at the average level of 630.3 US dollars/ton. The main suppliers were Thailand, Cuba and the Philippines.
