China Seed Expo 2012, Shenyang ? China International Agriculture Exposition 2012 held in Shenyang

The China Seed Expo 2012 and Shenyang ? China International Agriculture Exposition 2012 were held concurrently in Shenyang International Exhibition Center (SYIEC) during September 12-14, 2012. MOA Senior Advisor (Vice-minister Level) Zhu Baocheng attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Zhu emphasized that the seed industry, being sci-tech intensive, is a pioneering sector in agriculture, which is of strategic importance to the national economy.It plays a crucial role in developing modern agriculture and safeguarding national food security.

Chinese Government has always attached great importance to the development of the seed industry. With the concerted efforts from the seed industry,a wide range of new varieties have been developed and applied in agricultural production,which has significantly contributed to the eight-year consecutive growth of food production and farmers' income.

To date, the China Seed Expo has been successfully held for five times. Concurrently held with Shenyang ? China International Agriculture Exposition 2012, and taking "Green?Harmony?Communication?Development" as the theme, the Expo presented 45,000 square meters for exhibition of which 18,000 square meter-areas are specially designed and decorated,and provided 1500 standard booths.

The Expo hosted 210 overseas exhibitors from 14 countries and territories including U.S.,Korea, Viet Nam and Germany, and over 1200 domestic exhibitors from 19 Provinces(Municipalities and Autonomous regions). Nearly 2000 varieties were displayed on the Expo. It is estimated that more than 300,000 people visited the Expo.

During the Expo period, other side events were also held, including China International Seed Summit, China-Viet Nam Forum on Cooperation in Integrated Development of Agriculture,New Variety Launch and Trade Talks, Lishui Eco-friendly Products Promotion and the First Shenyang Orchid Show.

This year's China International Seed Summit has brought together about 100 experts, entrepreneurs and resource persons in the seed industry from home and abroad. Centered on "Investment, Innovation and Sustainable Development", the participants had an in-depth discussion on the improvement of investment mechanism, enhancement of international cooperation and development of modern seed industry.

Being a highly open and specialized exhibition, the China Seed Expo served as a direct and effective platform for mutually-beneficial cooperation between overseas and domestic seed enterprises.

In recent years, Shenyang ? China International Agriculture Exposition has grown rapidly from a regional exposition to a nationwide famous specialized agriculture exposition.

Holding the two expos at the same time has achieved desirable results through consolidating and optimizing the available resources.
