2nd Africa-Britain-China Conference on Agriculture & Fisheries opens in Beijing

The 2nd Africa-Britain-China Conference on Agriculture & Fisheries was convened in Beijing on Nov.12, 2012. MOA Vice Minister Niu Dun, British Ambassador to China Sebastian Wood, Ugandan Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and FisheriesZerubabel Nyiira, and Director of Finance and Administration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malawi Bright Kumwembe addressed the Conference, and signed the China-Britain-Uganda Memorandum on Agri-technology Transfer Cooperation and China-Britain-Malawi Memorandum on Agri-technology Transfer Cooperation.

 

The theme of the Conference was to officially launch the China-Britain Cooperation Project of Accelerating Agri-technology Transfer to Low-income Countries, which aims at assisting African countries to enhance their agricultural production and food security. The delegates exchanged views and discussed the main areas of cooperation. Representatives from Malawi Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and Uganda National Food Resource Institute made presentations on the prosperity and challenges of aquaculture and cassava industries, and the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agriculture Sciences introduced China’s experience in this field. The University of Stirling of UK also shared their expertise in African aquaculture programs. In regard to the problems and difficulties of cooperation projects, all delegates agreed to seek solutions through improved management, techniques and experience.

 

The Conference was sponsored by MOA and the Department for International Development of UK. Over 50 delegates from China, Africa and Britain attended the Conference.
