EU-China Seminar on Rural Development held in Tianjin

EU-China Seminar on Rural Development was held in Tianjin on Nov.9th, 2012. The Seminar was co-hosted by MOA Department of International Cooperation(DIC)and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), and co-implemented by the MoA Agro-Environmental Protection Institute and the office of the EU-China Policy Dialogues Support Facility (PDSF). DIC Deputy Director-general Liu Yingjie and Director John Clarke for International Affairs II at DG AGRI attended and addressed the Seminar.

In his speech, Liu stated that China-EU agricultural cooperation is a significant component of the China-EU Strategic Partnership. During recent years, the two sides have conducted cooperation in a wide range of areas and kept improving the cooperative mechanisms. Agricultural trade and science ant technology cooperation between China and EU has enjoyed fast growth. 

Liu expressed his hope that both sides will make the best of existing mechanisms and take the opportunity of PDSF to further practical cooperation and exchanges in agriculture.

Centering on agriculture and rural development,crop seeds, water resource management in agriculture and payments for ecosystem services, participants from two sides had a full exchange and an in-depth discussion.

Participants to the Seminar included over 50 officials and experts from DIC, MoA Department of Sectoral Policy and Law, MoA Agricultural Ecology & Resource Protection Center, Agribusiness Management Institute, Central Agricultural Broadcasting and Television School, Northeast Agricultural University as well as provincial agricultural resources and environmental protection agencies of Tianjin, Jiangsu, Hubei and Heilongjiang.
