Minister Han met with the visiting Danish Minister Mette Gjerskov for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries (FVM) in Beijing on Nov. 26th, 2012. Both sides exchanged views on further implementing results of President Hu Jintao's visit to the Kingdom of Denmark and substantively promoting the China-Denmark cooperation in agriculture.
Minister Han stated that at the witness of President Hu,Chinese MOA and Danish FVM inked two documents in June this year, namely Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Kingdom of Denmark on Deepening Cooperation in Agriculture and the framework agreement on the China-Denmark Milk Technology and Cooperation Center.
In the later half of this year,the two Ministers exchanged visits and boosted a series of cooperative activities that has yielded preliminary results.
Minister Han pointed out that China and Denmark are highly complementary in agriculture and have much in common. Given increasingly deepened cooperation and expanded trade in recent years, strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture is in the interests of both sides.
Minister Han proposed following fields for future cooperation:
1. To build efficient cooperation mechanisms. The first Working Group Meeting on Agricultural Cooperation will be held next year for identifying practical agricultural cooperation plans and specific cooperative projects;
2. To set up platforms for business communication and to bridge small and medium-sized agri-businesses from both sides;
3. To convene the Fourth Sino-Danish Roundtable Conference on Pig Industry. The Conference will focus on piggery design, disease control, animal farming management, effluent treatment and industrialized operation.
Gjerskov agreed with Minister Han on the proposed suggestions. Gjerskov emphasized that China-Denmark agricultural cooperation is featured with down-to-earth cooperative activities, high level exchanges and broad potential; and is of great significance to bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
She expressed her willingness to strengthen cooperation and exchange in quality and safety of farm-products, livestock production, organic farming, green food certification, environmental protection and green economy for joint development in agriculture.
Prior to the meeting, the two Ministries held a Plaque-Awarding Ceremony for China-Denmark Milk Technology and Cooperation Center.
