Over the last week, pig prices continued declining in China, while pork prices rose slightly. The decline in pig prices was mainly caused by two factors: on the one hand, slaughterhouses started to purchase pigs at depressed prices; on the other hand, group pig farms lower prices to market more pigs to finish their annual sales targets. Household consumption of pork for making bacon has been increasing since the beginning of December, driving up pork prices. It’s estimated that pig prices will fluctuate without sharp declines before the Spring Festival. China will see adjustments in pig prices in the coming week.
