China’s pig prices mainly saw adjustments this week, presenting a slight growth over the previous week. At the moment, the supply of standard hogs (100-125kg) is tight, leading to the competition between slaughterhouses and farms who buy standard hogs for further fattening. The competition supported pig prices to some extent. However, there were more overweight hogs and the terminal pork consumption remained softened, which may restrain the growth of pig prices. The May Day holiday is coming next week, pork consumption is likely to rise gently. It’s expected that pig prices will slightly move up week on week.
