550,000 Tons Sugar Production Expected in Xinjiang in 2012/13

According to the announcement made by Xinjiang Light Industry Management Office on 10th August, the Annual Working Conference on Data Collection from 14 Sugar Producers in Xinjiang, which was held on 8th August, estimated the beet acreage in the region in 2012/13 shall be 90,000 hectares, 5 million tons of beets shall be harvested, sugar production shall be 550,000 tons, 17% higher from 2011/12.

Data reflects 82,000 hectares of beets were harvested in 2011/12, 4.23 million tons beets were bought and 471,700 tons of sugar was made, up 11% year on year. Companies paid 1.9 billion yuan to cane growers and generated 200 million yuan profit, 55% less year on year.
