SFDA: Health Food Without Setting Validity Term Shall Be Wound Up

Recently, the State Food and Drug Administration issued Health Food Rectification and Certificate Renewal Work Scheme (Exposure Draft) (hereinafter referred to as "the Draft"). The Draft intends to request a thorough rectification on the health food which has been approved for registration by the Ministry of Health and the SFDA without setting validity term, and the food shall be requested to set validity term.
The Draft says that the health food approved by the Ministry of Health and the SFDA for registration but without setting validity term shall be given a thorough rectification, the validity term shall be established, health food approval number format shall be unified, health food function statement shall be regulated to improve product quality and safety control level. The implementation of health food rectification and certificate renewal shall be in stages, those obtained approval certificate of health food prior to December 31, 2000 shall submit application before June 30, 2014, and those obtained approval certificate of health food between January 1, 2001 and June 30, 2005 shall submit application between July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015. The certificate renewal requirement shall not be approved for the enterprises which "fail to propose renewal application within the prescribed time", whose "raw materials, auxiliary materials, and products exist food safety problems," "health function is not within the scope of the current function" as well as "formula, and production technology do not conform to the present provisions".
At present our country stipulates the validity term of the approval certificate for health food is five years. As early as in the middle of January last year, the SFDA has made it clear that rectification and certificate renewal will be carried out at proper time.
