Estimates of Grain Production in 2012

BOABC estimates that planted grain acreage, grain production and yield may be 111.367 million hectares, 578 million MT and 5,044kg/hectare this year, up 0.46%, 0.72% and 1.18% respectively over last year.

Harvested winter wheat acreage, wheat production and yield are estimated to be 22.694 million hectares, 111 million MT and 4,887kg/hectare this year, up 1.27%, down 0.57% and down 1.24% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

Spring wheat acreage is estimated to be 1.705 million hectares this year, 1.21% more than last year. Spring wheat production and yield are estimated to be 6.596 million MT and 3,868kg/hectare respectively.

In 2013/14 Crop year, sowing winter wheat acreage, wheat production and yield are estimated to be 22.693 million hectares, 111.43 million MT and 5034kg/hectare this year, down 0.01%, up 2.99% and up 3.00% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

Corn acreage and production are estimated to be 35.438 million hectares and 202.00 million MT this year, up 4.37% and 4.33% respectively over last year.

Spring corn acreage and production are estimated to be 23.56 million hectares and 134.5 million MT this year, up 5.2% and 4.41% respectively over last year.

Summer corn acreage, production and yield are estimated to be 11.924 million hectares, 67.53 million MT and 5,664kg/hectare, up 3.14%, 4.65% and 1.46% respectively over last year.

Planted paddy acreage, paddy production and yield are estimated to be 30.351 million hectares, 203.8 million MT and 6,714kg/hectare respectively this year, up 0.42%, 1.76% and 1.34% respectively over last year.

Early paddy acreage, production and yield are about 5.736 million hectares, 33.946 million MT and 5,816kg/hectare, down 0.26%, up 1.07% and up 1.34% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

Single-cropping paddy acreage, production and yield are about 18.189 million hectares, 132 million MT and 7,276kg/hectare, up 0.64%, 1.72% and 1.08% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

Late paddy acreage, production and yield are about 6.427 million hectares, 38.325 million MT and 5,963kg/hectare, up 0.4%, 2.49% and 2.07% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

In terms of paddy variety, japonica acreage and production are about 9.839 million hectares and 68.617 million MT, up 6.13% and 1.82% respectively over last year. Indica acreage and production are about 20.513 million hectares and 135.2 million MT, down 2.11% but up 1.73% respectively on the year-on-year basis.

Planted barley acreage is estimated to be 723,000 hectares this year, an increase of 16.3% over last year. Barley production is predicted to be 2.472 million MT this year. Considering falling barley price, barley acreage is surmised to shrink in 2013.

In 2013/14 Crop year, sowing barely acreage, production and yield are estimated to be 7.02 million hectares, 2.359million MT and 3525kg/hectare this year, down 3.19%, down 4.96% and up 2.99% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
