According to the National Bureau of Statistics, during the first three quarters of 2012, the total dairy production recorded 18,162,000 tons, up 4.9% year on year, of which liquid milk 15,389,000 tons, up 5.10% year on year; solid dairy 2,773,000 tons, up 19.84% year on year, of which powder 1,014,000 tons, up 0.7% year on year. In September alone, the production of liquid milk was 2,123,000 tons, solid dairy products 351,000 tons and milk powder 111,000 tons. Liquid milk saw year on year slip, solid dairy saw slowing down of growth and so did milk powder. According to BOABC, the slowing down of the production in Q3 was due to the incidences concerning dairy product quality, which affected consumers’ confidence on domestic made products; the constant price hike affected consumption; the fast growth of import affected the growth of domestic production.
