Review & Outlook of China’s Aquatic Product Market in 2012 ~ 2013

Nevertheless, aquaculture production and yields have increased this year thanks to moderate epidemic situation, despite floods and typhoons in some regions.
 
    Unlike the stagnant aquatic product price in the past two years, aquatic product price went up this year after the Spring Festival, accredited to decreasing ocean catch and growing cost of production. Sea eel and Spanish mackerel price went up by a big margin.
 
    Aquatic product exports are a pillar of China’s farm product exports. Subject to world economic recession, China’s aquatic product exports slowed down in 2012. Aquatic product exports to EU and South Korea started to recede in 2011.
 
    Aquatic product imports are stable this year on the whole, but high-grade products, such as fresh-preserved trout, increased substantially.
 
    In 2013, China’s aquatic market may be influenced by the following factors: weather conditions, international aquatic market trend, diseases, the impact of high yields in 2012 on the expansion of aquaculture in 2013, etc. BOABC predicts that domestic aquatic product consumption may slow down and aquatic product exports are difficult next year, since world economic recession continues.
