Review of Chinese Apple Market in 2012

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-07-03 11:18:43China Agriculture Report Print In 2012, the total output of apple amounted to 39.5 million tons, up by 9.8% from last year. 27.08 million tons of apples are fresh and good quality apples, accounting for 68% of the total. The volume of processed apples is about 7.5 million tons, accounting for 19% of the total. In 2012, the supply of fresh fruits is sufficient and the price is stable. The wholesale price was 6.81yuan/kg, up by 3.9% from last year.
 
Since 2006, the volume of export apples had increased in three executive years. In 2009, the exported volume reached 1.17 million tons and was reduced in the following three consecutive years. The buying prices of apples have increased which drove export prices higher and with the appreciation of Chinese currency, the export volume in 2012 was less than one million tons. Indonesia, as the major country Chinese apples are exported to, 130,00 tons of apples were exported, down by 17%. The major reasons are caused by multiple Indonesian regulations leading to reduction in vegetables. The qualities of Chinese apples aren’t stable, and the awareness of branding isn’t strong, leading to reduction in export volume in China.
 
In 2012, the export volume of apple juice condensate continued to shrink, which was 590,000 tons, down by 3.3% from last year. The volume of apple juice, the °Bx of which is ≤20 amounted to 5023 tons, accounting for 0.85% of the total. The volume of other varieties of exported apple juice amounted to 587,000 tons, accounting for 99.15% of the total.
