North Dakota was the only fortunate production region to receive some much-needed moisture last week, reports the National Sunflower Association. All other areas suffered from scorching heat and very little or no relief from the extremely dry soil conditions.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, this week featured the expansion and intensification of dryness in large sections of the country. There seems to be a break from the intense heat in sight, but not much precipitation in the forecast.

Sunflower conditions in North Dakota and Minnesota showed some improvement in the good to excellent categories, while production in South Dakota, Kansas and Colorado shifted more toward poorer crop condition this week due to the drought conditions.
