National Corn Growers Association President Garry Niemeyer presented the group's President's Award to U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow during NCGA's Corn Congress meeting in Washington, D.C. The President's Award is given annually to a leader who has worked to advance issues important to corn growers and agriculture.

"It is my great pleasure to present the NCGA President's Award to Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow for her continued leadership and support for the agriculture community, especially during the current farm bill process," Niemeyer said. "She has shown dedication and leadership throughout the 2012 farm bill process and we appreciate her efforts."

Stabenow, who was elected in 2000, is respected for her ability to build coalitions to get things done for agriculture and our nation. As chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, she has a powerful and unique role to play in shaping our nation's agriculture policies, which are so critical to our future.

"Senator Stabenow is an example of how to work efficiently in Congress," Niemeyer said. "We look forward to continuing to work closely with her and her staff on issues important to corn growers."

Jim Zook, executive director of the Michigan Corn Growers Association, said the recognition is fitting and a testament to Stabenow's effectiveness, and her support of agriculture.

"Michigan is fortunate to have a strong voice in the U.S. Senate who recognizes the importance of agriculture and how vital Michigan's corn crop is to our nation," Zook said. "Senator Stabenow's work for the corn industry is a great example of what the NCGA President's Award is all about."
