China Agriculture Report By CnAgriChina Agriculture Report Print

Pesticide production in China rose by 19.3% to some 2,868,000 tonnes in the first ten months of 2012 which ended on 31st October, representing the consecutive double digit growth, reports the China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA).

Herbicides, the largest category, were considered as the main growth driver, with production increased by 42.5% to 1,322,000 tonnes, accounting for 46.1% of total production. The growth of herbicide output is driven by higher demand for commodity herbicides such as glyphosate, 2,4-D. Insecticide production fell by 7.9% to 660,000 tonnes, making up 23.0% of total production, while fungicide production dropped 9.4% to 117,000 tonnes, accounting for only 4.1% of total production. The figures indicate that the issue of over-production of pesticides in the domestic market has been “somewhat alleviated”, the CCPIA notes.

According to the statistics of National Bureau of Statistics, total 800 Chinese pesticide enterprises above designated size whose data were collated realized a total industrial output value of Yuan 197.35 billion ($31.576 million at the current rate) in ten months 2012, with an increase of 23.2% on the same period last year. Among which, growth of biological pesticide achieved 44.0%. Sales of pesticide grew by 29.4% to Yuan 20.65 billion in October and accumulative sales have grown 22.4% to Yuan 191.71 billion. Due to the higher domestic demand, fast growing market overseas, higher price of products, the profit of pesticide industry rose by 29.4% to Yuan 10.27 billion in the first nine months. The industry loss fell 9.9% to Yuan 550 million, which showed that economic benefits had improved apparently.
