The Wisconsin-based Dairy Business Association has given its annual Leadership Award to Governor Scott Walker. During the group's 13th annual meeting in Madison this week, the DBA said Walker has shown a strong commitment to growing milk production in Wisconsin through the creation of the Dairy 30x20 Initiative. That program was designed to assist new dairy farmers enter the industry and current farmers become more efficient or grow their businesses.

"Governor Walker has been a true champion of our state's dairy industry by enacting bold reforms that have aided not only dairy but all sectors of our economy," said DBA President Jerry Meissner. "He has done so much in a short period of time to advance Wisconsin's largest agriculture sector. It was my honor to present the 2012 DBA Leadership Award and recognize his the great achievements."

Meissner also noted that Walker has enacted policies that ensure regulatory rules are based in peer reviewed science and do not go beyond the intent of the state legislature.

"These policies are extremely important to limit the high cost of implementing systems or practices that have little to no proven environmental benefits," he said.

Meanwhile, the DBA also recognized 99 state lawmakers in the State Senate and Assembly for their work and support of legislation to create a pro-dairy atmosphere.
