Brief Introduction:

China is the world’s largest mutton producing country with very few import and export volume, and its mutton production mainly is provided for itself; as for varieties, there are 127 mutton sheep breeds in domestic, but most mutton sheep are crossbred and improved breeds; currently, most mutton is room temperature meat, while chilled fresh mutton, frozen mutton and mutton products are fewer; in terms of slaughtering, private slaughterhouse takes the main part of mutton sheep slaughtering in China, while large scale slaughtering enterprises are fewer; with regard to consumption, outdoor consumption is the main part with urban residents as main consumers. Mutton sheep breeding mainly concentrates in pasturing area which mainly including Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Gansu and the inventory of these provinces accounts for 46.4% of national inventory. Mutton sheep breeding in agricultural area mainly concentrates in Henan, Shandong and Hebei, and the inventory of these three provinces accounts for 19.3% of national inventory. Though China’s mutton output, total consumption quantity and number of sheep farmed all rank first in the world, the concentration degree of current mutton sheep breeding is not high in China, feeding mode is backward, and mutton sheep industry develops slowly. Since 2005, the improvement of residents’ consumption level and the change of dietary pattern have made mutton consumption increased stably, especially high-end lamb meat consumption. The contrast between supply and demand promoted mutton price to rise stably. The wholesale price of mutton increased 81% in 2013 from 2008, and the investment value of mutton sheep industry is prominent. As for mutton sheep breeding, the proportion of scattering farming is decreasing in China, trend of scale breeding is obvious. In terms of mutton sheep slaughtering and processing enterprises, the operation rate of large and medium-size enterprises is lower, and the phenomenon of individual workshop slaughter is noteworthy. Mutton sheep slaughtering and processing enterprises will face huge integration potential in the future. In general, China’s mutton sheep industry is in the transition period from developmental stage to growth stage, concentration of mutton sheep breeding, processing cluster and market branding are the development direction of mutton sheep industry. During this period, there are challenges and opportunities. Based on the status quo of China’s mutton sheep industry, combining analysis on whole industry chain structure, the report makes deep research on mutton sheep breeding, current situation of mutton market and demand for high-end lamb meat, and tries hard to provide valuable references for professional readers and help readers learn business growth point of mutton sheep industry better. Research contents:  Status quo of China’s mutton sheep industry, including supply ability, breeding quantity and scale of various regions, development trend and prospect analysis and mutton demand analysis.  Status quo of China’s mutton sheep slaughtering and processing industry in past five years, mainly including product forms, processing cost and profit.  Status quo and development trend of China’s mutton and lamb meat market, including mutton output, lamb meat output, price trend, etc.  China’s mutton circulation channel analysis  Analysis on China’s import situation of whole or half mutton sheep carcass, including import volume, import price trend, importing enterprises list, market share ranking, etc. According to national level authoritative information and data from the State Statistics Bureau, the Development Research Center of the State Council, the General Administration of Customs, the State Information Center, the Ministry of Commerce, MOA, China Feed Industry Association, China Animal Agriculture Association, China Food Industry Association, etc, the report is written elaborately combining BOABC’s data base and has strong scientificalness and foresight.
