1.1.1 Pig prices in November

The average price of hog was 36.04 yuan/kg nationwide, decreasing by 1.14% month on month and increasing by 169.13% year on year. Piglet prices were 77.63 yuan/kg, increasing by 22.34% month on month and increasing by 226.30% year on year. Wholesale prices were 51.66 yuan/kg, increasing by 11.26% month on month and increasing by 171.30% year on year respectively.
The prices of compound feed for fattening pigs were 3.09 yuan/kg, increasing by 0.61% month on month respectively, increasing by 0.78% year on year respectively.

1.1.2 The weight of hogs for slaughter increased in November.

In November, the average weight of hogs for slaughter stood at 131.77 kilograms in China, increasing by 1.09% from the month before and 15.54% year-on-year.
By regions: Due to the further outbreak of ASF in the Northeast, pig farms in some northern provinces such as Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Shandong, and Henan sold hogs in large numbers, and the weight of hogs for slaughter generally declined. In the South, the disease was relatively stable, and pig prices were higher than that in North. Some farms still delayed the marketing of fattened hogs, so the weight of hogs for slaughter was comparatively high. As a whole, the average weight of hogs for slaughter in the country increased slightly.

Prediction for December: when fattened hogs are sold out in large quantities by northern farms, they will mainly market hogs with lower weight. It’s predicted that the weight of hogs for slaughter in most northern provinces will continue to drop in December. In South China,  farmers are bullish on pig prices before the Spring Festival, and have a stronger will of delaying the marketing of hogs. It’s anticipated that the weight of hogs for slaughter will remain stable or rise mildly.

1.1.3 Pig prices are predicted to stop dropping and rebound in December.

ASF was sporadically confirmed in the Northeast in October, showed a trend of spreading in early November, and further spread wildly in middle November. Farms in Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning sped up the marketing of hogs for fear of infection, while slaughterhouses seized the chance to force pig prices down, resulting in a sharp decline in pig prices in the Northeast as well as North China. For the price difference between the North and the South, more pigs in the North were transported to the South, which brought pig prices in the South down, and the national pig price was decreasing.
