Early Rice Pests Went Up By 4.4% in China

According to the MOA, Chinese early rice pests would be more serious over last year, and the occurrence would be over 22m hectares, up 4.4%, including rice pests 15m hectares, up 4.1%, and rice diseases 6.8m hectares, up by 5.2%.

Rice plant hopper will occur seriously in South China, Jiangnan Area and southern region of the Southwest, and outbreak in certain areas, while it is moderate in the Middle and Lower Reach of the Yangtze River. Rice leaf roller was moderate, and the occurrence area was also less compared with last year. Rice stem borer occurred seriously in Jiangnan Area and the northern region of South China, and outbreak in the middle reach of Yangtze River, over 17% over last year, making it the one with the largest increase.

Rice sheath blight would occur seriously in South China, Jiangnan Area and the Middle and Lower Reach of the Yangtze River, up 6% to 7% in occurrence area. Rice black-streaked dwarf are expected to lessen, however there still be the risk of massive occurrence in South China, Jiangnan Area and local areas in the Southwest.
