Beer Production and Barley Consumption in June in China

Beer production by medium and large producers registered 5.488 million kiloliters in June, 6.2% more than the month before but 0.92% less than the same period of last year. Beer production totaled 23.762 million kiloliters in January ~ June, an increase of 1.63% on the year-on-year basis. The promulgated figures showed a beer production increase of 3.6% in June and 4.5% in January ~ June, both on the year-on-year basis.

933,000 MT raw grains were consumed for beer production in June, including 292,000 MT barley. 4.04 million MT raw grains were consumed in January ~ June, including 1.251 million MT barley.

Barley consumption for various uses totaled 407,000 MT in June. Barley inventory was 3.545 million MT at the end of June, suggesting a consumption index of 8.71.

Planted barley acreage and barley production are estimated to be 723,000 hectares and 2.451 million MT this year. Barley imports are predicted to be 1.7 million MT. Barley demand is predicted to be 3.87 million MT. Barley stock at the end of the crop year is predicted to be 1.656 million MT, suggesting a safety index of 42.82%.

Barley price was RMB1,996/MT in June, parallel to the same period of last year. increased production and imports resulted in a stable price. Barley price is predicted to go up to RMB2,180/MT in 2012/2013 because of inflation, up 3.5% on the year-on-year basis.
