Middle and late rice disease continued to thrive in July. So far as middle July, occurrence area of rice plant hopper has exceeded 8m hectares, up 70% over last month and same time last year. Rice leaf roller was almost 4m hectares, up 10% over last year, however almost up 100% over June. 2nd generation of rice stem borer has also been over 6m hectares.

According to the prediction of NATESC, because of positive factors including pest amount, cultivation condition and climate, middle and late rice pests and disease are expected to be 74m hectares, up 100% over the level of June. Rice plant hopper is expected to be 20m hectares, while rice leaf roller will be 12.70m hectares, and it is likely to sweep the southern rice area. Rice stem borer will occur seriously in middle reach of Yangtze River, western area of Jiangnan Area, middle and northern region of the southwest, and total occurrence area are expected to be 9.3m hectares.

Rice blast will occur seriously to outbreak in the southwest and most area of the northeast, while moderate in Jiangnan, South China and middle and lower reach of the Yangtze River, total occurrence area is expected to be 4m hectares. Rice sheath blight will be serious in most rice areas, with the occurrence area to be 14m hectares. While rice false smut is likely to spread in the middle and lower reach of the Yangtze River, Jiangnan Area and local areas in the Northeast, and the occurrence area will be 4.7m hectares. Besides, southern black-streaked dwarf is likely to thrive in South China, Jiangnan Area, and middle reach of the Yangtze River.

The expectation of serious occurrence in the second half pushed pesticide enterprises enhanced the production and sales of related pesticide varieties, compound preparation become the mainstream, including abamectin and imidacloprid, abamectin and phoxim, abamectin and chlorpyrifos, nitenpyram and pymetrozine.
