Thailand to Lower Domestic Sugar Sales Quota

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2012-08-22 13:14:03China Agriculture Report Print

Thailand planned to reduce its domestic sugar sales quota from 2.4 to 2.3 million tons in 11/12. Thai sugar production hit a record of 10.2 million tons in the campaign, which means 7.9 million tons can be exported.

The Government realized oversupply at the domestic market and hence would lower the domestic sales quota. In 2010 Thailand saw excessive export, and it had it to buy back nearly 100,000 tons from the international market to meet the domestic supply. In order to avoid insufficient supply, the Government raised the A quota for sales amount inside the country in 2011.
