Weather and Cotton Conditions in China (Aug 15– 28)

Cotton was generally in the period of boll-opening, by end of Aug the harvest quantity shall be 5-8% of the total yield in 2012. It’s possible to have a higher yield than previous anticipation. During the past two weeks, weather condition was good for cotton growth.

For details:
1. Xinjiang and Hosi Corridor: Precipitation of 0-10mm was noted in most areas, 25%-50% less than ordinary years. With reference to temperature, it was about 1-4℃ higher than ordinary years with highest level of 38℃. With little rainfall and high temperature, it’s quite favorable for cotton growth.

2. Yellow River areas: Precipitation of 50-100mm was noted in 20 days in northern cotton areas, which was good for cotton growth. Typhoon might cause yield reduction in some areas.

3. Yangtze River areas: Precipitation of 100-400mm was noted in 20 days in the east, the abundant rainfall shall impact cotton growth in some areas, temperature was about 2-3℃ higher than ordinary years. In northwest precipitation in 20 days was about 50-100mm, which was good for cotton boll-opening.
