Keywords:Fishmeal Imports

China’s fishmeal imports registered 881,900 MT in January ~ August, an increase of 6.21% on the year-on-year basis. Of the total, 60% came from Peru and the rest from Chile, USA, Russia, Vietnam and Mexico.

Fishmeal import volume increased in January ~ May as a result of robust domestic demand but declined from June on. Domestic fishmeal price kept going north from January to July but went down in August. BOABC considers the following to blame for the decline of import volume and fishmeal price: First, fishmeal and other feed ingredient price ran high, causing feed mills to find cheaper raw materials. Second, low returns from livestock production caused livestock farms to cut fishmeal consumption.
