Due to reduction of sesame acreage and increasing demand for this oilseed, China’s sesame imports increased in 2012 and are predicted to keep growing in 2013.
 
16,854 MT sesame was imported in December of 2012 at an average price of $1,421/MT, down 28% and 1% respectively from the month before, down 24% but up 11% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Sesame imports totaled 395,648 MT in 2012, an increase of 2% on the year-on-year basis.
