Grain Imports & Exports in June

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-08-12 11:12:06China Agriculture Report Print Grain imports registered 596,300 MT in June, 22.55% less than the month before and 46.62% less than the same period of last year. The imports consisted of 219,400 MT wheat, 163,000 MT rice, 7,800 MT corn and 206,100 MT barley, 1.21% more, 23.32% less, 98.52% less but 29.52% more than the same period of last year respectively. Grain imports totaled 5.267 million MT in Jan. ~ June, a slip of 27.65% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Grain exports registered 24,362 MT in June, 34.8% less than the month before and 11.92% less than the same period of last year. Grain exports consisted of 240 MT wheat, 22,124 MT rice, 1,876 MT corn and 122 MT barley.
 
Non-state-run companies have basically used up their wheat import quotas. Their corn and rice import quotas have been used by more than 50%.
 
Grain imports were squeezed by rising import price and high import tariff. Corn import price was RMB2,373/MT (tariff included), close to the domestic market price. Port fee and domestic shipment cost included, imported GMO corn was more expensive than domestic corn.
 
Processed grain product imports and exports registered 23,670 MT and 39,421 MT respectively in June, 6.18% more but 22.33% less than the month before respectively, 3.9% and 13.38% more than the same period of last year respectively.
 
Processed grain product imports consisted of 21,528 MT denatured starch, 2,055 MT flour and 87 MT starch. The exports consisted of 22,768 MT flour, 8,453 MT starch and 8,200 MT denatured starch. The imports and exports equaled to 36,415 MT and 60,648 MT raw grains respectively.
 
In terms of raw grains, grain imports and exports were 633,000 MT and 85,000 MT respectively in June, down 45.08% but up 4.75% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
