Feed Production & Corn Consumption in Sept. 2013

China’s feed production was 18.66 million MT in Sept. and 150.39 million MT in Jan. ~ Sept., 4.87% and 4.36% less than the same period of last year respectively.
 
Of the total, compound feed production was 12.848 million MT in Sept. and 98.954 million MT in Jan. ~ Sept., 8.5% and 8.85% more than the same period of last year respectively.
 
Condensed feed production was 5.354 million MT in Sept. and 42.764 million MT in Jan. ~ Sept., 7.69% and 22.9% more than the same period of last year respectively.
 
7.979 million MT corn was consumed by medium and large feed mills and 12.413 million MT by mills of various kinds. Compound feed mills’ capacity utilization was 53.66% in Sept.
 
Other feed ingredient supply included 9.772 million MT oilseed meal, 2.2 million MT bran and wheat middling, 1.341 million MT rice husk and broken rice seeds, 1.55 million MT corn bran and protein powder, 80,000 MT beer dregs and 2.48 million MT wheat, paddy, flour and rice.
 
Corn consumption for various uses was 18.3 million MT in Sept. corn inventory was 123.5 million MT at the end of Sept., suggesting a stock index of 6.73. The inventory consisted of 27.714 million MT state reserve, 6.839 million MT corn deep-processing factories’ stock, 7.979 million MT feed mills’ stock, 3 million MT traders’ stock and 76.94 million MT on-farm stock.
 
Corn price was RMB2,412/MT in Sept., down 2.86% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Corn consumption for various uses was 196 million MT in 2012/2013, of which 123 million MT were consumed for feed production and 55.17 million MT were consumed by deep-processing factories. Corn imports were 3.674 million MT in the crop year. Year-end corn inventory was 66.99 million MT, suggesting a safety index of 34.16%.
 
Planted corn acreage and production are estimated to be 36.59 million hectares and 214.7 million MT in 2013, exceeding the previous year by 3.87% and 3.32% respectively. Corn imports are predicted to be 3 million MT. Total corn consumption is predicted to be 204 million MT. Both year-end corn inventory and safety index are predicted to go up in the crop year.
