Beer Production & Barley Consumption in Sept. 2013

Beer production by medium and large breweries registered 4.609 million kiloliters in Sept. and 41.21 million kiloliters in Jan. ~ Sept., 7.9% and 3.54% more than the same period of last year respectively.
 
323,000 MT barley was consumed for beer production and 412,000 MT for various uses in Sept. Barley inventory was 1.993 million MT at the end of Sept., suggesting a consumption index of 4.84.
 
Barley imports are estimated to be 337,000 MT in Sept. and 2.399 million MT in 2013/2014. Barley demand is estimated to be 4.667 million MT in the crop year. Year-end barley inventory and safety index are predicted to be 838,000 MT and 17.95% respectively.
 
Barley price was RMB1,977/MT in Sept. and RMB1,907/MT in May ~ Sept., down 1.57% and 7.3% respectively on the year-on-year basis, attributable to world barley production increase.
 
Barley acreage, production, imports and domestic consumption are predicted to be 626,000 hectares, 1.912 million MT, 2.75 million MT and 4.6 million MT respectively in 2014.
