August Milk Prices Swing Higher in All Major Dairy States

According to the latest data from the USDA, the expected U.S. milk price for August is $17.80 per cwt. That's 90-cents above July's price, but $1.00 below Wisconsin's price. All of the 23 major milk producing states are predicting a price increase from July to August.

The monthly milk price report says California is expecting its price to rise by $1.18 to $16.50 per cwt., while Pennsylvania and Michigan are both anticipating an increase of $1.10 per cwt.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.82 per pound on August 31, while barrels were $1.77 per pound. The CME butter price was $1.84 per pound.

For the week ending August 25, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.81 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.71 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $1.75 pound.

The Agricultural Marketing Service Class III price for August was $17.73 per cwt.
