1. Explanatory Notes
The value-added of cultural and related industries means the output value more than the value of intermediate inputs during the producing process of activities that provide cultural and entertainment products and services for the public, as well as the resident activity units associated with these activities, in accordance with the “Cultural and Related Industries Classification Standard” issued by the NBS in 2004.
2. Statistical Coverage
2011 is not a census year. According to the data sources, the calculating scale of national value-added of cultural and related industries in 2011 only included corporate units. On the basis of the different nature of the activities, corporate units of cultural and related industries can be divided into three categories: units manufacturing cultural products, units marketing cultural products, and units providing cultural services. The range of the industries included 80 groups and classes in the “Industrial Classification for National Economic Activities" (GB/T4754-2002). Of which, manufacturing units involved 18 groups and classes, marketing units involved 17 classes, and services providing units involved 45 classes.
3.Survey Methods
According to the “Statistics Program of Cultural and Related Industries (Trial)” developed by the NBS, the national value-added data of cultural and related industries in 2011 was calculated mainly using income approach. Of which, the value-added of the units manufacturing cultural products above designated size, units marketing cultural products above designated size, and units providing cultural services was calculated according to the annual report of the NBS; while the value-added of the units manufacturing cultural products below designated size, and units marketing cultural products below designated size was computed based on related structures and coefficients of the second national economic census (2008).
