Hog prices were 31.13 yuan/kg in this week, decreasing 4.13% from last week

On May 8, 2020, the factory price of carcass averaged 42.78 yuan/kg in 36 large and medium-sized cities, down 1.72% month-on-month. The wholesale price of pork was 41.85 yuan/kg, down 1.94% month-on-month. The retail price of pork averaged 53.68 yuan/kg, decreasing by 0.85% from the previous month.
 
Hog prices are 31.13 yuan/kg in this week, decreasing 4.13% from last week. The highest price was 35.20 yuan/kg in Hainan, while the lowest price was 28.10 yuan/kg in Heilongjiang.(Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia didn’t report pig prices.)
 
The average weight of hogs for slaughtering is 135.32 kg/head in this week,down 0.57% from last week. 
 
As the central authorities continued to release frozen pork from its reserves this week, the May Day holiday had little support to pig prices, which further declined. The pig price gap between the North and the South enlarged continuously. Residents prefer to eat lean pork in summer, but there are many hogs bigger than the standard on the market. Slaughterhouses were forcing prices down, without any purchasing difficulties. It’s expected that pig prices will decline continuously in the coming week.
